Statement on Funding Higher Education & MAP Grants

State Representative Tim Butler (R-Springfield) released the statement below following today’s vote on the House Democrats proposal (SB 2043) for higher education and MAP grants:

“Today’s proposal approved by House Democrats was nothing but a broken promise. The fact is their bill does not appropriate funding to pay for higher education. It is very disingenuous to give the higher education system a sense of false hope.”

“To keep our public universities and community colleges viable, the legislature needs reach a compromise. Funding higher education and MAP grants is important to my district which is why I have co-sponsored a bill to allow the Governor to appropriate funds for higher education. I am hopeful the legislature will consider my proposal when the House is back in session.”
